Blog #6: Coronavirus Pandemic
Every day feels like the same day but with different clothes and different food each day. At the beginning it was easy to be home all day because it was something that didn’t happen often before all this happened. After a couple of weeks, I started to become frustrated and just feeling that I was missing out on doing so much. I didn’t know what else to do, I would do different makeup looks, watching different shows, and trying to have a routine that would kind of make me feel productive.
To be honest, nothing really worked. The only thing that keeps my mind off it is talking and spending some virtual time with my family and friends. They make me forget that I’m home all day doing nothing but homework and watching tv. Overall, talking to loved ones helped but for a little bit and then reality kicked in again. Also, keeping myself distracted has worked as well. I’ve been wanting to finish furnishing and decorating my bedroom about a couple months ago and never had the chance to until now. I’ve been ordering stuff and doing things myself at home with stuff I don’t use anymore. Looking at youtube videos and pinterest to help me get ideas on what to make or buy to help me decorate my room how I want. I never been someone to buy “a lot of things” but during this past couple of weeks Amazon has been my best friend.
Although my distraction has been decorating my room, I know a lot of people can’t afford to get distracted in this way, and trust me I was searching for the things I wanted but cheaper than the original and that’s why I still have a long way to go since I’m on a budget. This might be something I’m doing to pass time but anyone can just plan ahead, either looking for things that they might want to do either in the future or just planning things to achieve every week while in quarantine. On the other hand, it’s not just a time of boredom and finding new things to do, but it’s also a scary time for our loved ones. We don’t know if it might get to them and have the outcome that It has been having on our elders or people with difficult medical history. The only thing keeping me together is the thought of going to visit family, friends, and other loved ones after this whole thing is over and being able to hang out them as much as possible. This is an eye opening experience to many people, and although before all this happened I used to visit my loved ones as often as I could, I still feel like it wasn’t enough. This is really a time for reflection and to know things we should start doing in the future and not take for granted.
