Blog #5: The Different Potential Topics for my Personal Essay

For starters, I thought that this assignment was going to be easy because although I don’t have many moments in my life that had impacted me, I have some few that I could choose from but not a lot that I can deeply talk about and give the audience much interest on it. It’s tough to choose just one and be able to ask questions and elaborate deeply on everything that makes the thing I choose interesting to my chosen audience. I had thought about writing about sports, more specific softball, since I have experience with the sport but what would I have written about it. What makes this sport special? What can I write about it that most people can relate to and not just people that play softball, but overall people that play sports? I was asking myself all these questions because I want to make sure that I chose the right topic that can be relatable to people right now. I was thinking about how maybe I can write about the importance of sports and the impact on our daily lives since now during this situation we can’t really play or even watch the sports we enjoy watching. Along with that, I could write about how softball helped me cope with stress and give personal anecdotes about the situations I went through and how it helped me.

On the other hand, I also thought about writing about how I used to live in Tijuana and I would cross every day to go to school. Ever since I was in kindergarten until I was in 5thgrade, we would have to cross every day to be able to go to school and my dad to go to work. It was always stressful thinking whether or not we would make it to school on time or my dad making it to work on time as well. This topic is relatable because there’s many people that cross the border every day to either go to work or go to school. Also, this connects to the idea that many people want to cross the border to be able to give their kids a better life and chance to study and become whatever their kids want to be. Every time we would cross, I would always think about how I had the privilege of being able to cross to get an education when not many people have that chance. These previous times when there would be a lot of immigrants trying to cross and being deported and still are, just relates to the matter. My situation wasn’t extreme, but if it was a sacrifice to my parents, then I only imagine how it is for other parents that don’t have that opportunity. I ask myself how the whole situation is impacting people, not only the ones being deported but people that cross every day. What are there thoughts? What is needed for the change or better access for people not be obligated to cross through extreme areas and risking their lives? These are some questions that I ask myself when thinking about this situation. I’m sure I’ll be able to find things for both things that I’m passionate about and be able to write about them.
